2023 Summer Holidays - Out of Office Poem
Andrew Treloar,
Mending Email
With apologies to Percy Bysshe Shelley and his poem Ozymandias
I met a colleague from a far-off land
Who said: two vast undocumented blobs of C
Reside in GitHub. Near to them, close at hand,
Unviewed, a blurry selfie rests, whose gaze,
And sneering lip, and arrogant visage
Tell that its taker well those passions had
Which yet survive, stamped on this unloved code,
The hand that typed them, and the brain that steered:
And in the comment text, ever these words appear:
“My name is Alpha, geek of geeks:
Look on my code, ye Mighty, and despair!”
Nothing besides remains. Round the debris
Of missing API complaints, and unmet pull requests,
The empty file directories stretch far away.
