14.3.8 Role in the scholarly communication process

Publishers undoubtedly still have a role to play in scholarly communication. I agree with the examiner that this is especially true of professional society publishers. I allude to this in chapter 3 (see 3.3.2: Scholarly societies on page 48). I agree that the new models of peer review developing are worth consideration and looked at some of these in chapter 6 (see 6.2.8: New models for peer review on page 91). A comprehensive analysis of peer review both past, present and future would be a thesis topic in itself.
